Our route began on a lovely lane lined with stone walls, away from the traffic and noise of D-2, the main road out of Gordes.
But the road became a private way that ended in a gate, and we had to back track to D-2, and a last look at the town from a busy viewpoint.
Our route took us into Cabrieres-d’Avignon, where we found a charcuterie and bought the ingredients for a delicious picnic lunch in the town square.
In Lagnas we took a loop up into the village to see the old castle, along with a whimsical collection of mini bories. We continued on, and before long came to the beautiful Sorgue, full of kyackers and swimmers.
Traffic was picking up as we got closer to the town. We pulled onto a side street to look at a beautiful field of sunflowers, the first we’d seen.
After a stop for ice cream we were back at the Terassas du Bassin in Isle sur la Sorgue.
We unpacked the bikes and Hubert met us to pick them up. It was was sad to give up these light strong bikes that had carried us safely through all our adventures.
That night as we packed our bags we were already dreaming of our next trip!
